I just got back from watching David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises and I have to say it is fantastic. Viggo Mortensen manages to get across, with a minimalism that borders in pantomime, waves of fear. I can’t remember either a movie were I giggled incessantly for minutes at a time, Easter Promises has some absurdly casual and funny snippets.
I had read a few reviews before heading over to the theater where some of the main critiques referred to the violence and I have to admit it gets explicit sometimes, but it is so localized that it almost seems necessary. Just go check it out.

Heh, funny coincidence! Went last night with Angelica to see this movie as well. While I did find the violence a tad unnecessarily explicit, it was overall a good, different movie, and good acting on Viggo’s part.
